Sesame Tofu with Broccoli

This Sesame Tofu with Broccoli is a delightful combination of crispy tofu and tender broccoli, all enveloped in a savory sesame sauce. Perfect for a healthy meal any day of the week, this dish is both satisfying and easy to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 200 g Tofu (firm, cubed)
  • 300 g Broccoli (cut into florets)
  • 2 tbsp Sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp Soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp Honey or agave syrup
  • 1 tsp freshly grated ginger
  • 2 cloves Garlic (chopped)
  • 1 tbsp Sesame seeds (toasted)
  • 1 Spring onion (sliced)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Cut the tofu into cubes and dry it well with a kitchen towel to remove excess moisture. This takes about 5 minutes and is important for achieving crispy tofu.
  2. Bring water to a boil in a large pot. Blanch the broccoli for about 2-3 minutes until it is bright green. Immediately plunge it into ice water to retain its color and crunch. This takes a total of about 5 minutes.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of sesame oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the tofu and fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown, turning occasionally for even browning.
  4. Add the garlic and ginger to the tofu in the pan and sauté for another minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic as it will become bitter.
  5. Add the blanched broccoli to the pan and mix everything well. This takes about 2 minutes to combine the flavors.
  6. Pour in the soy sauce, honey or agave syrup, and the remaining tablespoon of sesame oil. Mix well and heat for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly.
  7. Add the toasted sesame seeds and mix them into the dish for extra crunch and flavor.
  8. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Adjust the spices as needed to achieve the desired flavor.
  9. Transfer the finished dish to a serving bowl and garnish with the sliced spring onions. Serve warm and enjoy the flavors!

Nutrition

Keywords: Avoid overcrowding the pan with tofu as it will steam instead of crisping up. A good non-stick pan is essential to ensure the tofu doesn't stick and browns evenly. Feel free to adjust the sauce ingredients if you prefer more sauce, but maintain the balance of flavors.
